Professional Academic Tutor/Coach – Thomas More University

The Thomas More University Institute for Learning Differences (ILD), is seeking professional tutors/academic coaches. The ILD is a comprehensive support program designed for college students with documented learning disabilities.  Working with ILD students the tutor/coach will implement student-centric methods focusing on learning strategies and content knowledge while applying best practices for students with learning differences.  Students meet with tutors according to a set schedule each week throughout the semester.


Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in your content area or field related to learning differences required. Excellent English communication skills required. Must possess the ability to interact with a diverse student population.  Needs for Biology, Business, Communications, Computer Science, History,  Psychology, and Sociology.

The purpose of this position is to scale and coordinate all aspects of the Bishop Roger J. Foys Ministry and Service Scholarship Program (BFSP), a highly selective group of scholarship students interested in ministry and service and to establish youth outreach programs including an on-campus high school leadership summer retreat.  It is also for Campus Ministry to be capacitated to create more programs–for non-Bishop Foys Scholarship students– leveraging their involvement/ retention with more programs like Agape Latte.

This position is a 12 month full-time position.

Employ evidence-based best practices to implement and evaluate campus ministry, faith-based programs and activities and maintain program effectiveness, including cultural, intellectual, social, and spiritual events that contribute to the learning and development of students.

Understand, value, and promote the Catholic identity of the university.

Principal Duties & Activities

  • Recruits new BFSP candidates, and works closely with Enrollment Management staff to reach out to area high school campus ministry and guidance counselors to finalize scholarship awards given to new students. Perform twenty (20%) of an admissions counselor’s work.
  • Develops and supports retention initiatives in collaboration with the Thomas More Success Center to ensure Scholars are successful at Thomas More.
  • Plans and coordinates formation and leadership training for Scholars including monthly formation meetings.
  • Establishes, mentors, and coordinates day-to-day operations for the Campus Ministry Student Leadership Teams and their related spiritual, social and service activities, including but not limited to:
    • FAITH OUTREACH: Peer to peer engagement with fellow students on campus; coordinates existing programs (“Taco’bout Jesus”, Campus Ministry Grill Out and “Agape Latte”, FOCUS/SEEK/SLS Planning) and works with the Coordinator of Residential Life and Activities to develop new outreach initiatives including hospitality to those of other faith backgrounds to find worship services in our area.
    • SERVICE: Develop and coordinate service opportunities within the Thomas More community and surrounding area.
    • MISSION TRIPS & RETREATS: Coordinate traditional off -site retreats and mission trips for students.  Explore new opportunities for half-day on-site retreats, vocation awareness fairs and workshops on campus, and local, national and international pilgrimage opportunities and alternative breaks. Collaborate closely with Liturgy & Worship Team.
    • LITURGY & WORSHIP: Assists in planning for student involvement at all Thomas More Chapel daily and Sunday masses, develops prayer services in the residence halls in collaboration with the Faith Outreach Team. Plans and coordinates scheduling opportunities for adoration.  Collaborate as needed with Mission Trips & Retreats Team for prayer components for on-site retreats or workshops.
    • SAINTS FOR LIFE: Coordinates pro-life activities on campus and attendance at the Annual March for Life and Pro-Life Training in Washington DC.
    • YOUTH OUTREACH: Implements Diocesan approved pilot programs and opportunities to involve local high school students in ministry primarily through on campus summer “Leadership Training” seminars.
  • Works with students to advertise upcoming Campus Ministry Team-led Campus Ministry events according to best practices including regularly updating the Campus Ministry website and maintaining a visible social media presence for CM.
  • Works with Scholars to provide hospitality for Institute for Religious Liberty events as needed.
  • Handles all BFSP administration including maintenance of the tracking mechanism, Mobilserve, for recording service hours and types of service projects completed by Scholars and keeping a current list of all Campus Ministry Team leaders.
  • Develops and manages BFSP budget.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive assessment strategy for the BFSP; explores and pursues new opportunities to improve the quality of the program.
  • Establishes and coordinates a high school summer program, prioritizing participation by diocesan high school students.
  • Coordinates the reservation of the bus and driver hotel room for the Washington, DC March for Life held each year in January.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Campus Ministry with a focus on maintaining a Ministry of Presence: being a visible and easily accessible minister to students, faculty and staff.
  • Onboards and supervises Campus Ministry work-study students and graduate assistants, as applicable.
  • Processes religious items donations.
  • Interphases with Student Life and collaboration with other university departments.
  • Promotes the Catholic identity and mission of the university.
  • Performs other related duties that assist in advancing the mission, vision, values, and goals of the office and the Center for Faith, Mission, and Catholic Education.


B.A. in related field such as theology, religious studies, pastoral ministry, divinity, pastoral studies, or equivalent training/experience. 


Must be a practicing Roman Catholic

Experience in college campus ministry, 2-3 years

Demonstrated experience articulating Catholic theological perspectives and representing the Catholic tradition

Demonstrated knowledge of young adult faith development

Demonstrated experience with pastoral care and crises response

Willingness to work flexible hours, late evenings and some weekends

Demonstrated understanding of the Catholic perspective on ecumenism and interfaith teachings

Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the identity and mission of Catholic universities
