Religion Teacher/Catechist Certification Program and Adult Faith Studies

The office offers stimulating classes for teachers, parish catechists, diaconate aspirants and any adult who would like to expand their knowledge of the Catholic faith — everyone is welcome to attend any course/workshop! The courses are separated into two categories for catechists: Certification courses and Maintenance Courses. Every course is open to all!

*Walk-ins accepted, but preregistration is encouraged.

Certification Courses

There is a basic, general and advanced level of certification for religion teachers in the Diocese of Covington. At the recommended rate of two courses per year, an individual should reach the advanced level of certification within a six-year period.

Once an individual has completed the advanced level of certification, he or she must complete 30 hours of maintenance every three years.

Who:  All Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies and American Heritage Girls who received their Catholic religious awards during the 2019-2020 school year. Troops and family members are invited.

As part of the celebration, the Most Reverend Roger J. Foys, D.D. will call the recipients forward by name and present each with the Bishop’s Religious Awards Patch. A reception follows at Covington Latin School (next door to the Cathedral).

Bible Study Workshops

The Department of Catechesis and Evangelization is sponsoring workshops on books of the Bible, presented by Father Timothy P. Schehr.

Father Schehr is a Biblical Professor at the Athenaeum of Ohio (Mt. St. Mary Seminary) of the West. He has a B.A., M. Div.,  and an M.A. from the Athenaeum of Ohio. He also has a Ph.D. from Hebrew Union College.

This course study will provide adult learners in the diocese with a more in-depth understanding of specific books of the Bible. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn, know and understand more about the Catholic  Bible.

Sessions are  Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Each workshop will take three days and will cover one book of the Bible. The cost to participate in each book of the Bible workshop is $35. Call (859) 392-1500, ext. 1529.
