Director of Sacred Music – St. Peter Parish, Mansfield, Ohio

Overview

St. Peter Parish has been blessed with decades of strong liturgical music that is rich and diverse, spiritually inspiring people of all ages. Its musical ministry is comprised of assistant organists, along with instrumentalists, choirs, and cantors who desire to enhance the faith life of those who attend the various parish liturgies.

The current Director of Music is retiring this summer after many years of fruitful service and is willing to be flexible with the start date of the new hire. The person who fills this position needs to have a passion for liturgical music and desire to instill that in the music ministers and the parish community.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with a strong background in both traditional and contemporary sacred music
  • High proficiency in organ and piano playing
  • Strong ability in forming and directing cantors, choirs, and other musicians
  • Desire and ability to collaborate well with other parish staff in a team environment
  • Practicing Catholic with knowledge and respect for Catholic liturgical norms and principles

Responsibilities

  • Plans and prepares music for all parish liturgies.
  • Coordinates with the assistant organists/pianists to provide for all parish liturgies.
  • Directs the parish choirs during two of the four weekend Masses and the weekday school Mass.
  • Recruits and develops cantors, choir members, and instrumentalists.
  • Plans and organizes weekly rehearsals.
  • Weekly practices playing the organ and piano in preparation for the weekend Masses and other liturgies.
  • Continues personal growth and learning in the area of sacred music.
  • Stays informed with pertinent diocesan and ecclesial documents pertaining to sacred music and the liturgy.
  • Maintain licensure of all printed music and copyright expenditures.

After School Care Assistant – Villa Madonna Montessori

Director of Liturgy – The Cathedral of Christ the King, Lexington

Summary
The parish of the Cathedral of Christ the King, located in the Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Liturgy. This is a growing parish of 1600 families and a large school with grades K-8, with twice a day daily Masses (and a weekly school Mass) as well as one Saturday evening and four Sunday Masses. The Director of Liturgy collaborates with clergy, parish leadership, staff and ministry leaders/volunteers to prepare, coordinate and execute all parish liturgical celebrations to provide a quality liturgical experience that celebrates and strengthens the parishioners journey of faith and encourages “full conscious and active participation” as called for by the Second Vatican Council. The Director also works closely with the Diocesan Liturgical Commission as regards to diocesan liturgies taking place at the Cathedral. This is a salaried, exempt, full-time position that requires some evening and weekends.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES included, but not limited to:
• Oversee preparation and execution of all liturgical celebrations such as Mass, prayer services, sacramental celebrations and funerals:
-Collaborate with parish staff and ministry leaders/volunteers to oversee the celebration of Weekday and Sunday Masses, including school, CCD and CGS liturgies
-Collaborate with parish priests, deacons and the parish wedding coordinator regarding baptisms and weddings to ensure the liturgical celebrations of these sacraments are liturgically appropriate
-Coordinate with the Faith Formation Coordinator, Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Youth Director and School personnel regarding Sacramental Masses, including OCIA Rites, Confirmation, and First Holy Communions
-Meet with family of deceased to schedule and prepare for funeral liturgies, working closely with Bereavement Ministry leaders to facilitate a loving and pastoral process
-Coordinate with various parish groups to manage other liturgical celebrations and special devotions
-Coordinate with the Diocesan Liturgical Commission and the Bishop’s office regarding Diocesan liturgies or those in which the bishop presides that are held at the Cathedral.
-Prepare scripts/worship aids, and special blessings as needed for any liturgical celebration
-Oversee the planning and execution of appropriate Art and Environment throughout the liturgical year in coordination with volunteers, and the Facility Manager, as well as various parish and outside groups
• Ensure the integrity of the liturgical year in coordination with clergy, liturgical ministers, Liturgy Committee and Director of Music Ministry, making sure consideration for the liturgical year is included in the parish calendar
• Attend all staff meetings, liturgy committee meetings and other meetings as requested by Rector.
• Work with the liturgy committee in recruitment, training, spiritual formation, and scheduling of all liturgical ministers in collaboration with the volunteer heads of each ministry such as Sacristans, Lectors, Servers, Ushers/Hospitality Ministers, Eucharistic Ministries throughout the year as needed
• Work with the Facilities Manager on the sound system, maintenance, updates, general operations of the system
• Manage and maintain liturgical supplies, vestments, liturgical books, linens, etc.
• Work with the controller to establish a budget for liturgical needs

QUALIFICATIONS
The qualified candidate should be/have:
• A bachelor’s degree minimal, in theology or liturgical studies
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in this position at a parish or diocesan position planning and executing liturgies preferred
• A practicing Roman Catholic in good standing
• A strong knowledge of Catholic Faith, Doctrine, Prayer, Liturgical Rites, liturgical principles, norms and rubrics
• A flexible schedule to accommodate evenings, weekends and busy seasons within the liturgical year
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
• Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multitask
• A collaborative spirit, and the ability to work well with others
• Capacity to be flexible when sudden changes or conflicts arise
• Proficient with Microsoft Office or 365, Google Workspace and/or Adobe products
