Overview

St. Peter Parish has been blessed with decades of strong liturgical music that is rich and diverse, spiritually inspiring people of all ages. Its musical ministry is comprised of assistant organists, along with instrumentalists, choirs, and cantors who desire to enhance the faith life of those who attend the various parish liturgies.

The current Director of Music is retiring this summer after many years of fruitful service and is willing to be flexible with the start date of the new hire. The person who fills this position needs to have a passion for liturgical music and desire to instill that in the music ministers and the parish community.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with a strong background in both traditional and contemporary sacred music
  • High proficiency in organ and piano playing
  • Strong ability in forming and directing cantors, choirs, and other musicians
  • Desire and ability to collaborate well with other parish staff in a team environment
  • Practicing Catholic with knowledge and respect for Catholic liturgical norms and principles

Responsibilities

  • Plans and prepares music for all parish liturgies.
  • Coordinates with the assistant organists/pianists to provide for all parish liturgies.
  • Directs the parish choirs during two of the four weekend Masses and the weekday school Mass.
  • Recruits and develops cantors, choir members, and instrumentalists.
  • Plans and organizes weekly rehearsals.
  • Weekly practices playing the organ and piano in preparation for the weekend Masses and other liturgies.
  • Continues personal growth and learning in the area of sacred music.
  • Stays informed with pertinent diocesan and ecclesial documents pertaining to sacred music and the liturgy.
  • Maintain licensure of all printed music and copyright expenditures.

Financial Controller

The Diocese of Covington is seeking an individual with the necessary professional training and background in finance and accounting to assume the role of Controller within the Diocesan Finance Office. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and has a broad responsibility to produce accurate financial information for Diocesan offices, officials, and entities, and to monitor financial controls that safeguard assets of the Diocese. Specific major duties include reconciliations, limited internal auditing, invoicing, supervision of cash disbursements and receipts, tax reporting forms, workers compensation, preparation of financial statements, preparation of work papers for annual audit, closing of the fiscal accounting year, supervision of accounting staff, verifications, and general accounting and software assistance. Candidate requirements include advanced training in accountancy (a CPA license is preferred) with at least five years of previous experience as an Assistant Controller or Controller, strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and precision in written and oral communications. Director of Music and Faculty Member – Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology

Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology is seeking a full-time Director of Music who will report to the Rector/President regarding institutional matters and the Academic Dean regarding instructional matters. The Director will likewise collaborate with the Director of Liturgy in facilitating the liturgical life of the seminary community.

Role

The Director of Music, who will also be a faculty member of Mount St Mary’s Seminary, will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and oversee all the sacred and chant-based music for the seminary liturgies, especially Sunday and Daily Masses, and the communal chanting of the Liturgy of the Hours on weekdays, creating liturgy programs and musical handouts for these celebrations as needed.
  2. Coordinate and oversee music for special liturgical celebrations and events during the year.
  3. Serve as the primary chapel organist for daily liturgies and supervise additional student organists/cantors.
  4. Assist with the liturgical formation of the seminarians by training seminarian cantors, directing the seminary Latin Schola in the patrimony of the Church’s sacred treasury, leading periodic all-house music rehearsals, attending periodic liturgy meetings, and teaching required music curriculum rooted in Church documents for the seminarians and permanent deacon candidates.
  5. Oversee maintenance of the Pasi organ, Opus 29 (installed in 2023 [details on the organ can be provided on request]), as well as several pianos on campus, and a handbell set. Also, maintain the music/choral library.
  6. Coordinate the activities of the Sacred Music Institute, including the activities of the Athenaeum Chorale (a semi-professional group of singers that sing at various events throughout the year), hosting visiting organists for recitals, as well as public lectures, conferences, and workshops for priests and sacred musicians, and collaborating with the institution’s Advancement Office for fundraising and advertising.

Skills, Experience, Degree

Organist, choral conductor, vocal instructor, teacher of sacred music, liturgical knowledge, familiarity with computer writing (Finale/Dorico), and program booklet design software (Adobe InDesign). Must have a Master’s in Music, though a Doctorate is preferred.
